A Seasoned Banker and a Lecturer, PhD in Risk Management, MPhil in Economist, BA in Economist
Dr. Kojo Aboagye-Debrah is an economist and a strategist by profession. He holds a PhD in Strategic Management (Business University of Costa Rica) and an M-Phil degree in Economics from University of Ghana, Legon. He is a fellow of University of Ghana/USAID (1993-1995/96). He also obtained his BA (Hons) degrees in Economics from the same University, University of Ghana, Legon in 1992.
Dr. Kojo Aboagye-Debrah’s key competencies are in Strategic management; relationship management, economic research and leadership skills. He is very analytical and a team player.
Dr. K. Aboagye-Debrah has worked with UT Bank (Metropolitan & Allied/BPI Bank) (1995-1998) as Senior Banking Officer; United Securities Trust Limited as Senior Financial Analyst (1998-1999); SSNIT as an Investment Analyst (1999-2000); Merchant Bank as Head (Manager) of Research & Strategy Department (2000-2005); Merchant Bank as Senior Relationship Manager (Team Head-Heavy Manufacturing-Mining, Construction, Iron & Aluminium) Corporate Banking; and Stanbic Bank Ghana as Executive Assistant to the Chief Executive and Head /Business Development (June 2007 to date). His key role in Stanbic Bank Ghana:-He is in charge of business strategy and managing new relationships.
Dr. Kojo Aboagye-Debrah’s hobby is lecturing as a part-time lecturer at the University of Ghana Business School (1998-2000), Methodist University College Ghana (2000- to date-MBA Level), Central University College (2001 to 2002) and Accra Polytechnic (HND Level (1997-1999). He has supervised MBA students who have successfully passed their project works. Currently, he handles MBA class (level 700) in two papers: Strategic Financial Management of Banks & Financial Markets at the Methodist University College Ghana (MUCG). He also handles two papers at the MBA level at the National Banking College/Netherland Business School: Business Economics and Quantitative Methods. He also facilitates Business Economics at the KNUST CEMBA Programme. He is an External Examiner in Financial Management. He supervises Ph.D. students.
Specific jobs executed in Merchant Bank included the Bank’s restructuring plan (2003-2006) and Corporate Strategic Plan (2006-2010). Together with Executive Management, they repositioned Merchant Bank as a profitable Bank between 2003-2005. As the Head of Strategy, he served on almost all the committees –Marketing, Product Development, Branch Opening/Closing and Pricing Committees, and ALCO. Between June 2006-2007 he was transferred to Corporate Banking Unit as a Team Head in charge of Heavy Manufacturing Industry (Construction, Mining, and Aluminum) managing a loan portfolio of about GHS71million (US$71M).
Prior to be appointed as a Deputy Managing Director of Sahel-Sahara Bank (BSIC) Ghana Limited, Kojo worked at Stanbic Bank Ghana of (a member of Standard Bank Group) as an Executive Assistant to the Chief Executive (Managing Director) and Head/ Business Development in charge of Business Strategy and managing new relationships. He was a member of the Executive Committee of the Bank (EXCO).
His strong analytical background in economics and risk/relationship management is very useful to Management Team in Stanbic Bank Ghana. He has been a good Team Player for the past seventeen (17) years in his career in the Banking Industry.
